چکیده

We consider the system of equations governing an incompressible immiscible two-phase flow within an heterogeneous porous medium made of two different rock types. Since the capillary pressure function depends on the rock type, the capillary pressure field might be discontinuous at the interface between the rocks. We introduce multivalued phase pressures to give a sense to the transmission conditions at the interface. We prove the existence of a solution for such a flow by passing to the limit in regularizations of the problem. keywords: two-phase flows, porous media, discontinuous capillarity, multivalued pressures AMS subject classification: 35M33, 35Q86, 35K65, 76S05, 76T99

Numerical simulation of two-phase immiscible incompressible flows in heterogeneous porous media with capillary barriers

We present a new version of the sequential discontinuous Galerkin method introduced in [25] for two-phase immiscible incompressible flows in heterogeneous porous media with a discontinuous capillary field. Here, a new implementation of the extended interface condition, that does not use the threshold saturation value at the interface and permits treatment of different residual saturations in di...

On the effects of discontinuous capillarities for immiscible two-phase flows in porous media made of several rock-types

We consider a simplified model for two-phase flows in one-dimensional heterogeneous porous media made of two different rocks. We focus on the effects induced by the discontinuity of the capillarity field at interface. We first consider a model with capillarity forces within the rocks, stating an existence/uniqueness result. Then we look for the asymptotic problem for vanishing capillarity withi...

A degenerate parabolic system for three-phase flows in porous media

A classical model for three-phase capillary immiscible flows in a porous medium is considered. Capillarity pressure functions are found, with a corresponding diffusioncapillarity tensor being triangular. The model is reduced to a degenerate quasilinear parabolic system. A global existence theorem is proved under some hypotheses on the model data.

Finite volume approximation for an immiscible two-phase flow in porous media with discontinuous capillary pressure

We consider an immiscible incompressible two-phase flow in a porous medium composed of two different rocks so that the capillary pressure field is discontinuous at the interface between the rocks. This leads us to apply a concept of multi-valued phase pressures and a notion of weak solution for the flow which have been introduced in [Cancès & Pierre, SIAM J. Math. Anal, 44(2):966–992, 2012]. Incompressible immiscible multiphase flows in porous media: a variational approach

We describe the competitive motion of (N + 1) incompressible immiscible phases within a porous medium as the gradient flow of a singular energy in the space of non-negative measures with prescribed mass endowed with some tensorial Wasserstein distance. We show the convergence of the approximation obtained by a minimization scheme à la [R. Jordan, D. Kinderlehrer & F. Otto, SIAM J. Math. Anal, 2...
